#ShelfLife - September 22, 2017

Ahoy, mateys! We set sail into this week with two books from local author Nicole Castroman, Blackhearts and its sequel Blacksouls, as we celebrated National Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Then, we followed the tides of teen and YA favor with a "text message" from the Hampton Park Library, a recommendation from fellow Instagrammer @rachel.hanlon, and a preview of the creepy classic novel our Teen Book Club will read in October.

Later in the week, we landlubbers returned to shore and turned our attention to the great outdoors. We're looking forward to the upcoming Forsyth Writes Together presentation with local naturalist Mark Warren, author of the Secrets of the Forest series and a memoir, Two Winters in a Tipi. He'll visit the Cumming Library on Thursday, October 5 to talk about his book, his experiences with writing and publishing, and all he's learned from the Cherokee people.

Before we sign off for the week, let us remind you that the library is the place to be during Fall Break. Be sure to check out our program calendar for lots of fun activities (like Puppetpalooza, breakout games for tweens, and the Hispanic Heritage Celebración).

So, what's on your to-be-read pile for Fall Break? Leave a comment below and your book could be featured on Instagram next week!

“One of the interesting things I've learned by narrating audiobooks is how many words I have always said incorrectly. It makes you feel really idiotic and then you think: Wait. I've said this wrong my entire life ...and nobody corrected me? Are people not listening when I speak to them?” – @johnny_heller We feel you, Johnny. We readers can absolutely relate to that “Eureka!” moment when we hear a word we’ve read a zillion times finally spoken aloud…and it sounds nothing like we thought it would. Laugh out loud with these and other behind-the-scenes stories about your favorite audiobook recordings as RBdigital presents The Johnny Heller Audiobook Experience at the Post Road Library on Sunday, October 8 at 3:00 p.m. BONUS: The RBdigital team will show the audience awesome features and secret shortcuts for the new RBdigital website and mobile app! @recordedbooks #RBdigital #ShelfLife #audiobooks #loveaudiobooks #lovebooks #johnnyheller #voiceover #narrator #FCPLstories #ForsythReads #readersofinstagram #librariesofinstagram @GeorgiaLibraries

Our Teen Book Club is going old school with a discussion of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE by Agatha Christie at the Cumming Library on Tuesday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. It’s a perfectly creepy kick-off to this spooky time of year. Give it a read and come tell us how you figured out whodunit! About the book: First, there were ten - a curious assortment of strangers summoned as weekend guests to a private island. Their host, an eccentric millionaire unknown to all of them, is nowhere to be found. All that the guests have in common is a wicked past they're unwilling to reveal - and a secret that will seal their fate. For each has been marked for murder. One by one they fall prey. Before the weekend is out, there will be none. And only the dead are above suspicion. #ShelfLife #AgathaChristie #andthentherewerenone #bookclub #teenreads #mystery #suspense #ya #thriller #amreading #readersofinstagram #bookstagram #FCPLstories #ForsythReads #FridayReads
